Audi RS2 Avant on esimerkki 90-luvun puolelta siitä, mitä Audi ja Porsche voivat yhdessä saada aikaan. Näin ainakin Porschen saadessa pitää huolen lopputuloksesta.
Audi RS2 Avant on ensimmäinen RS-mallinimen saanut Audi ja jo pelkästään siten merkittävä, ja koska Porsche suunnitteli kyseisen mallin, kyseessä on todellinen erikoisuus.

Auto on tuotu käytettynä Italiasta 10/2004.
Audi oli jo aiempien sukupolvien kanssa rakentanut rallimaailman reittejä tavalliselle kansalle tarjoamalla sporttisempia ja tehokkaampia nelivetoisia vaihtoehtoja coupé-version osalta. Neljännessä sukupolvessa oli vihdoin myös sedan- ja farmarikorien vuoro. Porsche suunnitteli rinkulamerkille perheautojen lippulaivan, josta tuli Audi RS2 Avant ja se oli todellakin saatavilla vain farmarikorilla.
Moottorina on S2-mallista tuttu turboahdettu 2,2-litrainen viisisylinterinen, mutta tällä kertaa tehoa on kutiteltu 315 hevosvoimaa. Muun muassa turboahdin on vaihdettu suurempaan, välijäähdytin reilumpaan ja suuttimia kasvatettu lisäpolttoaineen syöttämiseksi. Kuljettajan omaksi tehtäväksi on jätetty vaihteiden valitseminen kuudesta pykälästä ja lähes itsestäänselvästi voimansiirron osana on myös quattro-neliveto. Porschen osaamista on hyödynnetty erityisesti auton jarru- ja jousitusjärjestelmien parantelussa. Esimerkiksi etuakselilta löytyy Brembon valmistamat nelimäntäiset satulat, joilla puristellaan jarrupaloja 304 millimetrisiä jarrulevyjä vasten.
Ulkoiset erot ovat etupuskurin ilmanottoaukkoja lukuunottamatta varsin maltillisia. Muutamien mallimerkintöjen lisäksi Porsche 964 -sukupolven 911-mallin Cup-tyylin vanteet kuuluvat näkyvimpiin erottautumistekijöihin. Mielenkiintoisena yksityiskohtana auton peilit on lainattu tuosta samasta Porsche 911 -mallista.

Audi RS2 is a four-wheel drive passenger car with manual transmission. This car was imported from Italy on 10/2004.
The Audi RS2 Avant is an example from the 90’s of what Audi and Porsche can do together. That’s at least when Porsche gets to take care of the end result. The Audi RS2 Avant is the first Audi to receive the RS model name and is already significant, and since Porsche designed it, it’s a real specialty.
Already with previous generations, Audi had built rally world routes for the common people by offering sportier and more efficient four-wheel drive options for the coupé version. In the fourth generation, it was finally the turn of sedans and station wagons.
Porsche designed the flagship family car for the backpack brand, which became the Audi RS2 Avant and was indeed only available with a station wagon. The engine is a familiar turbocharged 2.2-liter five-cylinder from the S2, but this time with 315 horsepower. Among other things, the turbocharger has been changed to a larger one, the intercooler to a fairer one and the nozzles have been increased to supply additional fuel. It is up to the driver to choose the gears from the six sections, and it is almost obvious that quattro four-wheel drive is also part of the transmission. Porsche’s know-how has been utilized especially in the improvement of the car’s braking and suspension systems. On the front axle, for example, there are four-piston saddles made by Brembo that press the brake pads against the 304-millimeter brake discs.
The external differences, with the exception of the front bumper air intakes, are quite moderate. In addition to a few model markings, the Porsche 964 generation 911 Cup-style wheels are among the most prominent distinguishing features. An interesting detail is the car mirrors are borrowed from that same Porsche 911 model.
